I’m Joseph Townshend, a multidisciplinary artist, musician, and creative producer working across sound, design, and storytelling.
I originally trained in graphic design, first at Central Saint Martins, then at the Royal College of Art. During that time I developed a deep interest in publishing and material culture, which led to the founding of Housework(Press), a riso-print and publishing house. Alongside HWP, I ran an independent design practice for several years before transitioning into software engineering, drawn to the structure, logic, and creative potential of digital tools.
I now work as Head of Production at Extended Play Ltd, where I help realise ambitious creative projects across music, opera, theatre, books, and live events. I’m also the co-founder of As The Wave Forms, a sound design studio working with short film, contemporary art, and advertising.
My personal sound practice, as Joe 3y3s, explores deep listening, resonance, and altered states through gong work and sonic ritual. I perform at retreats, festivals, and collaborative events, using sound as a medium for connection and transformation.
This site is a way to bring all of these threads together - a living archive of the work I’ve made, contributed to, and collaborated on.
